Several methods for controlling antenna beamwidth for aperture
widths approximately equal to one wavelength have been
briefly proposed. In this case, aperture-method calculations are not
suitable because aperture theory fails for small mouths (the beams
are determined more by edge diffraction than by the aperture
fields). The mouth modifications can improve the radiation patterns
and input impedance matching.
