The QSD8250 and QSD8650 devices are the first devices of the QUALCOMM
Snapdragon (QSD) platform, featuring unprecedented integration and breakthrough
mobile processor performance combined with ubiquitous access to mobile broadband.
The Snapdragon platform offers unrivalled flexibility with unsurpassed processing
capabilities on a handheld device.
A key feature of the QSD8250/QSD8650 device is the integration of the QUALCOMM
Scorpion processor. Scorpion is the world’s most advanced processor for handheld
devices, with specific optimizations for the low power requirements of the mobile
environment. Scorpion is compliant with the ARM® v7 architecture, with specific design
optimizations by QUALCOMM, leveraging both processor design expertise and
knowledge and experience of power requirements in a battery-operated device. Scorpion
is targeted to run up to 1 GHz and down to 1.1 volts.

Ubiquitous communication
The QSD8250/QSD8650 device integrates a WCDMA/UMTS modem supporting
HSUPA/HSDPA WCDMA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE. Additionally, the cellular modem in
the QSD8650 device supports CDMA2000® 1x and 1xEV DO. Both devices will support
interfacing to IEEE 801.11 (WLAN) for VoIP applications and broadband access.
QUALCOMM’s Bluetooth® 2.0 + EDR is also supported. Additionally, the
QSD8250/QSD8650 device provides interfaces to QUALCOMM’s Universal Broadcast
Modem™ (UBM™) to give possibilities for MediaFLO™, SDMB, ISDB-T and DVB-H.
Support for all mobile broadband standards and many technologies complementary to
WWAN finally delivers on the promise of seamless, always-on connectivity.
With the QSD8250/QSD8650 device, more powerful business applications, ultra mobile
portable computing (UMPC), and superior games with complex graphics are possible,
while allowing the user to access to a wide range of wireless network connectivity.
Wireless devices enabled by the Snapdragon platform chipset will leverage the

With the Snapdragon platform providing up to 12 megapixels, camera performance can
rival the resolution of all but a few high-end digital still cameras. This camera is
complemented by the display options. The QSD8250/QSD8650 device’s LCD controller
supports displays of XGA resolution, while the MDDI host can drive WSVGA displays.
High-quality images can thus be displayed and the integrated ATI core expands the
application possibilities. Scorpion can easily achieve processing power to decode H.264
compressed video at VGA resolutions, and is therefore an ideal solution for mobile video
playback.
A key appeal of the Snapdragon platform is the ability to seamlessly connect to all of the
indispensable electronics people use every day. Integrated USB, (with high-speed USB
interface), MDDI, CE-ATA, and the standard TV interface can drive computers, printers,
video projectors, hard drives, televisions, and other external devices. QUALCOMM’s
integrated chipset solutions cut bill-of-material (BOM) costs, power consumption, and
time-to-market, enabling manufacturers to build attractive and sleek form factors that
mirror the incredible performance of the Snapdragon platform chipset.
Snapdragon provides the processing power of Scorpion and builds on QUALCOMM’s
years of systems expertise and field experience with CDMA, WCDMA, and GSM

With support for peak data rates of 7.2 Mbps on the downlink and 2 Mbps on the uplink
using HSDPA/HSUPA, the QSD8250/QSD8650 device enables network operators to
provide an even broader range of wireless multimedia and other data services for
consumers and enterprise customers. The peak data rates of IS-856 1xEV-DO Rev. A of
3.1 Mbps on the forward link and 1.8 Mbps on the reverse link are available on the
QSD8650 device.
The powerful application processors combined with QUALCOMM’s market-proven
wireless modems offers increased processing capacity combined with lower power
consumption. With the QSD8250/QSD8650 chipset solution, handset manufacturers can

QUALCOMM’s QSD8250/QSD8650 solution offers significantly increased processing
speeds, higher resolution video and graphics, an ATI LT graphics processor, on-chip
high-speed DDR memory, and extended usage times for gaming and video applications —
all on a single chip. This single-chip solution eliminates the need for a separate
applications processor, decreasing parts count and supporting the development of compact
handheld devices.
